Unit 6 Assessment

The meditation/mantra was very powerful. While chanting those words I felt frustration and resentment practically melt away. I was able to feel extend loving-kindness to the individuals that have influenced these negative thoughts within me. I no longer felt the need to hold on to those negative emotions, and didn't feel as passionate about them. It became easier to dwell on what I could do to make these individuals feel happier and healthier.

I found the assessment to be a very useful tool. I gave me the opportunity to discover what area in my life is needing attention. I realized that my focus should be on further developing my physical fitness. I understand that doing some type of exercise will help build that aspect. Also, the benefits of nurturing my physical self will manifest in my mental and spiritual health as well.

  1. Maria;
    Hi.. yes, I thought the meditation and chanting, was vey soothing. I first memorized the words, then sat myself in a comfortable position and focused on breathing while saying the chant. it also helped me to turn off my hearing aids so I can cut out any unnecessary obstructions that may distract me. This I have an advantage over many people because I have learned to "cut out" negativity and focus more positively on my mind/body and soul. As for using the assessment tools I find that this would have helped me several weekes ago before I was in hospital; but now that I have the "tools" so to speak, I can assess the situation and while meditating look for what my distress is in which of the 4 quadrants and work on them,release them and move on rather than reacting I am observing and changing. The meditations definately help with reducng the stress and promotes more calm mind. I need to make sure i do this routinely so that it is an everyday life fullfilment just as exercise for the body and spirit. Kathy

  2. Maria,
    I feel the same way about the words that we were supposed to say to ourselves in order to help others from their pain, suffering, and health. It took the focus off of myself and placed it on others for me. I was so happy to have those few sentences to say and feel the experience of helping others to elevate unwanted pain, suffering, and health and wellness issues. I felt like I was able to help others with the skills and knowledge that I have learned in this and other classes.
    That is great that the needs assessment helped you to realize an area in your life that needed attended to. That was a very powerful tool for me. It made me realize that I have several areas in my life that need attention but I realized that I need to start with forgiving others so that it does not keep me from continuing to grow in my own integral health.
    It is important with exercise to remember to start out with small goals and work your way towards long term goals. Set yourself up for success. Do not set the goals too high that you feel like a failure. It is important to find something that you enjoy doing and build on that. You will feel better physically, mentally, and spiritually. Good luck in this area of your life. Keep focused and reward yourself for your accomplishments.
